Scrapbooking Layout, Plans and What To Look For

Free Scapbooking Layout – Samples of Free Scrapbooking Layout Plans

Scrapbooking is no longer the simple collection of magazine cutouts which we happen to find interesting. Or the bare collection of photos with minimal designs bounded together in a book.

In fact, this hobby has already become a craze and believe it or not, its popularity has exceeded golf. At a conservative measure, there are four scrapbookers in every American family while there are only three golfers who could play golf in each household.

Its popularity was added by multi-level marketing enterprises, which seemed to have raised the overwhelming collections of scrapbooking materials. Add to this the fact the myriad of collectors and vendors who seem to have their entire lives with scrapbooking.

While it already has evolved into a pool of vendors, collectors, traders and buyers we should still have to trace back the origin of scrapbooking.

It of course has started as a hobby. But with entrepreneurs seeing the lucrative prospects from scrapbooking, many has now toughed the tides and made this a billion dollar industry.

From scrapbooking product designs to product selling. From scrapbooking softwares to the nitti-gritties like charms, stickers, stick-ons and everything in between, there surely is some place for tactics that would help better the industry. And that including the free bees that we normally get from the web.

Well, the free scrapbooking layouts here that we are talking about are not the exact layouts that you would use step by step. Instead, we have prepared free scrapbooking layout plans that will contribute largely with the development of your craft and your own style. After all, scrapbooking is one good way for your personality to radiate.

Here are the following layout plans:

The newspaper style

One of the most obvious mediums by which we can see effective layouting are from the newspapers. There no boundaries in making the layouts for your scrapbooking, anything and everything is possible. Now if you would want to layout your family pictures or personal photos in tabloid form, you may choose to lay them on columns. Just like the ones you see posted in tabloids. Birthdays, weddings an sporting events all fit well in this type of formatting. For optimized results, you may use an old English font for the script and Times New Roman for the titles.

Try the handprints

This works best with an album for your child. You may trace his hand print or his foot print and do whatever that pleases you. You may have it traced on the cardstock or the paper itself. For an alternative, you may mount a picture of your child on any traced medium and make use of the area around the page.

Use the rub on transfer technique

Rub-ons for long, had been the favorite among both amateur and veteran scrappers. They create pretty effects that make layouts extra special. There are plenty of ways for which you may use rub-ons. The most common of which is to apply them on the cardstock, photos or any sort of papers, may it be patterned or plain.

Rub-ons need some learning curve. It might even take time before you master the technique. They come in helpful tools though like a rubbing would for easy design transfer. However, once you have mastered the craft, you would be able to use it even to trickier mediums like ribbons, glass, mesh, and ribbons. Please assure to it that when doing the techniques on these materials, the rub-ons are adhesive enough so as to create better effects.

Chalk solutions for your scrapbooking layouts

Texture, color and dimensionthat are what chalks do. chalks appeal to most surfaces especially those that are paper-based so there really is no problem when using chalks. The soft color that they add makes baby albums a bit more babyish and solemn albums a bit more solemn. Somehow, chalks intensifies that concept in ways that cant be doe with any other medium.

However using chalks would mean that you have to prepare for messy works. Nevertheless, it’s all worth it.

There are certainly more ideas…in your head for layout. You only have to allow them to come to the surface. We hope our ideas for free scrapbooking layout designs is of some help.

They can easily be combined with other techniques to complement for the concepts and be utilized for intensifying the design, or to make them as the general idea for your own layout concepts.

Inspiration For Your Scrapbooking

scrapbooking-inspiration

Although there are endless amounts of scrapbooking supplies, tools, and embellishments available, you may come to a point where you are finding it difficult to get the right start on a particular page layout for one of your scrapbooks. Don’t worry, this happens to all of the most creative types in the world, and often it just takes something to get your mind of of the creative rut that it’s currently in.

You can find general inspiration everywhere around you, especially in advertising.  You may want to take a break and watch television but keep the general idea in the back of your mind, watching the ads for ideas.  You could also go for a nice drive and check out billboards and other advertising. On the other hand, you may want to go straight to the source and pick up some scrapbooking magazines that focus on page layout ideas and begin your project by mimicking one of the examples you like.

Don’t be afraid to just put it away all together and not think about scrapbooking for an hour or two. The ironic part is that it’s very likely that once you get your mind working on something else entirely, that’s when an idea will strike you for your scrapbooking page layout.

What about going to visit a friend? Meet someone for coffee and chat about your ideas. They might have a fresh perspective that they can share and lead you to scrapbooking bliss!

The ultimate source of inspriation will often comes from the pictures themselves if you can get your mind into it at the time. You can pull design ideas and colors from the photos, and match the backgrounds with the paper you choose, etc.  The best thing to do is not stress out about it and just have fun, take breaks, and share your ideas with others.

Journalise Your Scrapbook

Journalise Your Scrapbook

journalise-your-scrapbook

Scrapbooking is great fun, especially the creative aspect of putting together all the photos and embellishments into a page layout and producing a full album. However, you don’t want to lose sight of your main scrapbooking goal, which is to produce a book full of memories that can be shared with family and friends for a lifetime. In order to be sure that you remember all the details of the time when the photos were taken, it is important to journalise the page layouts in each of your scrapbook albums.

Begin with a title for each page in your scrapbook to give it a general description, but don’t hold back. You can be t the point if you like, but don’t be afraid to add a little personality, humor, or heartfelt feelings to the title. Your creative input and personality is what makes your scrapbooks special. A great way to approach your scrapbook journaling is to think of your album as a story, especially when thinking of the title.

Next, using writing or embellishments, include a little caption for each of the photos. For example, you may want to name the people and the place the photo was taken, or be specific about other things in the background. Not only does this help you remember everything about the event in the future, but it is more enjoyable when you show people your scrapbook that doesn’t necessarily know your other friends and family, or the places you’ve been.

You can also journalise your scrapbook pages without photos. Let’s say you forgot your camera at an important event, or something spontaneous happened where photos weren’t taken but you wanted to capture the moment in a special way afterwards. You can still use scrapbooking pages and embellishments to create a special memory that reminds you of that time. Maybe you have other things you can include like ticket stubs, a dried flower, or other small objects that you had at the time.

For scrapbooking Moms, it might be something your baby had colored on, or maybe a special twig that your child had held on to at the beach.  Be creative and capture all your memories!

Preparing Your Scrapbook Layouts

Preparing Your Scrapbook Layouts

Scrapbooking-page-layout

Before you start gluing down photos and embellishments, you’re going to want to prepare the scrapbook page layout and put everything in it’s place before you make it final. This is so you don’t make a mistake and then are unable to remove something because you have already used adhesive to make it permanent.

Typically, scrapbookers will either prepare a one or two-page layout. Although a one page layout for your scrapbook can give a sense of more intimacy with the photos placed closely together, a two page layout allows for a lot more to be included. Sometimes a two-page layout is necessary to avoid having to leave something out or squeeze it all into a space that doesn’t do the theme justice.

If you happen to have a huge set of photos that need to be within one scene, you can always even spread it out over 3-4 pages or even create a whole album that is based on one event (wedding, 40th birthday party, baby’s birth, etc.).

Whatever  your theme and event happens to be that you are creating a scrapbook layout for, the point is that preparation is key. It is easy to get overwhelmed if you just try to dive right in and start sticking items to the paper as you go without planning out the layout.

The best thing to do is spread everything out over a large table. Even if you are preparing 10 pages, lay them all out together so you can get a sense of how they will flow together as you begin preparing the photos and embellishments.

Of course, it’s a good idea to do this in a room where small children and pets won’t crash into your layout before it’s glued down. The small pieces you’ll be using as embellishments are a choking hazard as well. So, if possible, find a space in your house that can be just for your scrapbooking.

Fixing Scrapbooking Mistakes

fixing-scrapbook-mistakes

Scrapbooking is amazingly fun and a wonderful creative outlet. However, sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the creative flow and end up with mistakes glued to their page that have messed up their page layout. There are a few things to be sure you check for as prepare your layouts before you finalize them in order to avoid mistakes and ensure that you the best project possible.

That most common mistake while working on a scrapbooking project seems to be a spill of some sort. It may slip your mind while you have everything spread out and just made yourself a nice fresh cup of coffee, but it’s good practice to keep food and drink separate from your scrapbooking supplies and work in progress.

Another common mistake in scrapbooking projects is not noticing spelling and grammar mistakes.  A tip that usually works well is to write out the title, note, or message on a piece of paper first. Proof read it, and then copy it from the paper as you write it out on the final scrapbook page.

If you happen to make a scribble or a scratch with a writing tool, those can often be touched up with a small sticker or other embellishment.

Sometimes a mistake is a good thing. Ask anyone creative genius and they’ll tell you that often some of their best ideas come by making a small error and causing the original idea to take a turn for the better. On your scrapbooking page, you might accidentally drop the wrong embellishment on the page but end up liking it better.

In some cases you could actually add more to the page and joke about your mistake with writing or embellishments somehow.

All types of things can happen, so don’t take it too seriously if you make a boo boo. Just fix it the best you can if you have to, and enjoy yourself.
